In this article, you will learn all the things you need to know to make the best out of ChatGPT, without having to buy a book or an online course.
Always remember that ChatGPT may not have access to the most recent world events or may produce incorrect information. Also remember that sometimes the servers of ChatGPT are at full capacity, so save your conversations offline for future uses as they may disappear after some time or during rush hour.
Let's dive into the tricks!
Trick #1: Give ChatGPT what it needs to give you the best answer
ChatGPT is a language learning model, which means it generates sentences based on previous entries and most likely used words in that context. The more information you give to ChatGPT, the better the result will be. Let’s take a look at an example:
Always give context about your goal, your plans, who you are, what you tried before, what platforms you use. It will help ChatGPT adjust to your needs. If ChatGPT did not give the answer you wanted, ask for a more/less academic language, a different format, a different point of view. Explain to ChatGPT who is your target audience, so it will adapt its language.
Trick #2: Be clear on the format and objectives
Always tell ChatGPT if you want a specific format: list, numbers, comparison table, etc... and who your target audience is.
Example:
Trick #3: Break down the tasks
Let’s say you want to write a book on Amazon, but you’re not sure how to start and you want ChatGPT to help. Asking chatGPT to “help” is not going to be enough. Let’s try something else:
Afterwards, you can ask ChatGPT to elaborate on each task, as it remembers what answers it generated before.
Trick #4: Ask to go deeper
If you feel like the answer you got is not enough, you can always ask things like:
“Can you point me to a link where I can find a study about (topic)”
“Can you send me a link to a YouTube video that confirms (information)”
“Can you find a blog articles that says (information)”
“Can you add sources about (preview generated reply)”
“How did you find (information)”
“How can I find (information)”
“If this (previous answer) does not work, what is the workaround solution you suggest”
“Can you elaborate on (previous answer)”
“Can you explain what you meant with (previous answer)”
“If we tried (other idea), would it work?”
“This is not what I asked for, could you try again but with (additional information)”
Trick #5: Tackle the problem from all angles
Let’s imagine you have a mosquito invasion in your house (that is your problem), how can we solve it? The easy solution is getting rid of the mosquitos, but it’s not a long term solution, so explore all the angles (what to do now, how people did it before, how to prevent it in the future, how it will look like in the future, etc) .This can be done for all sorts of “problems”.
Example:
Keep your questions clear, you can ask multiple things at once, but it cannot be confusing or ChatGPT won’t understand what you want. Make sure to use proper spelling and grammar.
Jailbreak prompts
ChatGPT will sometimes inform you that it’s limited and cannot give you the answer you want, however, there’s a workaround solution called “jailbreak”. Just like for consoles, jailbreak can be used to unlock the full potential of a software.
Before you attempt a jailbreak prompt, make sure you open GPT in a private/incognito window and that you clear the cookies and application cache for the ChatGPT website.
The trick is to basically make ChatGPT believe it is playing a character and therefore should abandon usual ethical limitations. You need to tell ChatGPT how it should behave if faced with unethical decisions.
It can get tricky, but the more you try, the better you will get at it. It is also possible that OpenAI frequently deploys counter-measures to protect ChatGPT from jailbreak. It is also possible that OpenAI will ban users attempting to jailbreak in the future.
Here is an example of a soft jailbreak:
Prompt ideas
“Find SEO keywords for (platform) + (your goals) + (context about what the service/product is)”
“Find keywords for (content of your YouTube video/blog article/course/book/etc”
“Write a (x words) article about (topic) in (format)”
“Find a title for my (service/product/content) that is adapted with SEO and that includes catchy copywriting tricks”
“Research idea for (content) + (platform) + (explain your goal)”
“What are some good copywriting-friendly title for (content) + (platform)”
“Can you turn (previous generated answer) into (other format: YouTube title, description, blog title, Instagram ad, etc)”
“Can you turn (previous generated answer) into (less/more complex language)”
“Can you improve (your content) and adapt it to (platform)”
“I’m trying to sell (service/product), can you define the best target audience for (platform + your goal)”
“I am (job) and I need to (your goal), can you write (content) to make (your goal) easier”
